Welcome to The Mediterranean Mom

I don’t even like to cook.

Cooking has never been fun for me—it’s always felt more like a chore. Before I met my husband, Desmond, I lived off “girl dinner.” We’ve had actual debates over whether popcorn counts as a meal… because that was dinner for me at least a few times a week. I could boil some pasta or bake some chicken (seasonings were optional), but that was about the extent of my culinary skills.

I still prefer to graze and snack my way through the day rather than prepare, cook, and sit down for full meals. But that all changed once I started a family—because while that worked fine for me, it definitely wasn’t going to work for them.

How We Landed on the Mediterranean Diet (Ish)

Our Mediterranean (ish) journey started because of my husband’s health. Desmond had been dealing with some weight-related issues and set a goal for himself to get healthier. Of course, I jumped on board—not because I had a goal weight, but because I was newly pregnant with our second baby and knew I wanted to feel my best during pregnancy and beyond.

I’d love to say it was an easy switch, but it wasn’t. I still went through a “chocolate chip cookies after dinner every night” phase (and honestly, no regrets). But I tried to be supportive, keep the splurges in check, and not eat junk in front of him.

The real challenge was figuring out how to make this new way of eating realistic. The Mediterranean Diet sounded simple on paper—lots of veggies, whole grains, olive oil, fish, nuts—but it took a while to find meals that were both tasty and doable with our schedules. Shopping was a learning curve. Cooking felt like an event. And at that point, Callie was two, I was pregnant, and life was just… full.

Two Years Later

Fast forward two years—Desmond is down 100 pounds (yes, one hundred!), and I’ve somehow found a rhythm with meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking that doesn’t make me want to pull my hair out. With Callie now four and Piper one, “simple and quick” is my love language when it comes to food.

And somehow, shockingly, I even work out consistently now. Siena from two years ago would have laughed at that idea.

Why I Started The Mediterranean Mom

I created The Mediterranean Mom for anyone who’s where I was a couple years ago—wanting to feed your family healthy, satisfying meals without spending hours in the kitchen or buying ingredients you can’t pronounce.

Because when most people hear “Mediterranean Diet,” they picture something fancy or complicated—like you need to live by the sea, eat octopus, and drizzle truffle oil on everything. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

You can make comfort food that still fits within the Mediterranean framework—it’s about mindful swaps, simple ingredients, and finding a balance that works for real family life.

My faith and family are at the center of all of this. Food is how we gather, connect, and take care of each other. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about making better choices most of the time, giving yourself grace, and celebrating progress, not perfection.
